Description:
This project has been a long-term passion piece of mine. I started "pimping" the iconic Dust 2 layout back in 2017, and it has evolved alongside my own technical journey.
Starting out in 3ds Max, moving through Unreal Engine, and finally "sliding" into Blender, this is the latest result of that transition. My goal was to transform the sterile desert environment into a lived-in, industrial tropical atoll while maintaining the soul of the original map.
Key Highlights of this Version:
Atmospheric Lighting: Leveraging Blender’s Filmic color management and custom RGB curves to achieve a warm, vintage "Kodak" film aesthetic.
Verticality & Storytelling: Expanded the layout with multi-layered walkways, industrial piping, and hidden gems like the "Dog Corner" (Hundeecke) with its own little garden.
Material Mix: A contrast between heavy weathered metal (the rusted tanker hull), tropical vegetation, and improvised wooden structures.
Custom Water Shader: Integrated noise-based transparency and depth to simulate shallow coastal waters.
It’s been a wild ride through different engines and workflows, and I’m hyped to finally share these highlights with you.
Hope you enjoy the vibe! ^^ Cheers, Tryfield ^^
